Who are you and what do you do?
We are a sister-owned faith-based company local to Minnesota. At Velvet Honey, we make beautiful clothes and jewelry that you will want to wear every day. Clothes with a message and jewelry made of agates and gemstones for unique purposes. We make pieces that will start a conversation or be a reminder just for you so that you live with intention. We want to help people not only be fashionable, beautiful, and confident but to live purposefully doing what God made you, specifically, to do.
How did you get started in your business?
Annie and Alexandra have matching tattoos on their arms, from Esther 4:14 that say, “Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created.” It is a daily reminder that everything counts. Annie started as an esthetician and Alexandra as a hairstylist. They both have a passion for making people feel beautiful inside and out. Abby is a social worker and helps people every day to meet their needs in the community. We are all tied together in our love to serve God by taking care of people. In our day-to-day jobs, we are encouraged not to speak about our faith, so we don’t offend the people we’re serving. We all felt a need to find a way to do something we loved while boldly proclaiming God’s love. Through this need, Annie came up with the idea to launch Velvet Honey and quickly got Alexandra on board. Ali has always had a creative brain and immediately jumped into creating the beaded pieces and jewelry you see today. Abby was the last to join the team and has found a passion for writing and business she didn’t even know existed. We are so proud of where God has led us through this journey and look forward to the things to come!
What is the latest thing you have been working on?
Our Summer Sale! Over the past several weeks we’ve been working on narrowing our featured products to streamline what we offer. We launched Velvet Honey in July 2021, and over the past year have learned so much, and with that a clearer vision of what we want Velvet Honey to become. During the Holiday show, we are looking forward to clearing out our inventory to create space for new simpler, cleaner, pieces. So, expect lots of wonderful original pieces at a lower cost!
What do your customers love most about your product(s)?
The versatility! Our products can be worn in so many ways. The owners of Velvet Honey wear many different hats, (hair stylist, social worker, esthetician, entrepreneur, mom, dog mom, cat mom, wife, yogi, churchgoer, etc), so we needed jewelry that accommodated all of that. Our pieces are perfect for running to the grocery store or making that killer pitch at work. And each piece is always made with love and purpose.
What do you love most about craft show vending?
We love being able to see people! It is such a different experience being able to interact with the individuals who are buying our products. Anyone who speaks with Alexandra can clearly see the love that was poured into creating and making each piece and her passion to create. We love hearing stories from people of how they think one of our bracelets, necklaces, or clothing items will be a light to someone as a gift or how it will help them in their unique journey. What a blessing it is to share in someone’s story.
